Safety is very important, and if you are using a WordPress website you should install Wordfence. It’s a great plugin that protects your website from login attacks. Even the free version does a very good job so, I highly recommend you download it.
But there is more.
If you are familiar with WordPress, you do know by now that by default, all the self-hosted WordPress sites have a login URL that looks like this:
yourdomain.com/wp-login.php
And do you know who else knows that? Yes, you guessed it right, hackers.
In this short guide, I’ll show you how to change the WordPress login URL and make your blog safer.
Let me say at this point, that I’m not a cybersecurity expert, but I try to do what I can when it comes to my website’s safety.
This solution, will not guarantee no more hacking attempts on your website, but it’s something that will minimize unsolicited attacks.
Here are the steps:
- Login to your dashboard
- Go to Plugins/Add new
- Search for WPS Hide Login
- Install and Activate it
- Go to Settings/WPS Hide Login
- You will find a field that says URL for login and next to it a field where you can write a custom slug. It would be something like this:
yourdomain.com/my-login or something else. It can be a completely new word, it doesn’t matter, as long as you remember it 🙂
And that’s it, you are all set!
I hope you enjoyed it and keep your website safe 🙂
